The copy editor will be responsible for a first round of proofreading to ensure that the written text is concise, consistent and both grammatically and factually correct. Copy Editor will also make sure that each sentence is easy to read and that the concepts expressed are logical and sequential. Copy Editor will also verify that the illustrations and captions are correct. The copy editor will respect internal style guides and preferred use of TRAI and the spelling of certain words. The editor must read, research, reflect on and reformulate the written materials given to him. The candidate should review and edit articles written for grammar, verbiage, comprehension to make them error-free and impressive to read.
The copy editor must ensure that the material is clear, consistent, complete and credible, and that the text is well written, grammatically correct and accessible. Copy Editor will take the original material, or copy, and prepare it for publication by correcting spelling, grammar, and layout (proofreading), checking content, enforcing consistent styles, and rephrasing or rewriting.
Editors should have: excellent written English, including good spelling and grammar * a meticulous approach to their work and attention to detail the ability to maintain high quality work while meeting tight deadlines
a love and a feeling for the language.
The job would often require working under tight deadlines without compromising standards.
Desired degree: Master in English language and literature; Humanities and Social Sciences to the top.
Experience: At least 4 years preferably in a publishing environment
