Job description: Job summary:
The Virtualization Support Specialist provides day-to-day global operational delivery of virtualization capabilities as part of Basic Infrastructure Services (CIS). This role is an individual contributor who provides technical support of a complex nature for the company’s virtual infrastructure and associated hardware and operating systems. This professional applies knowledge of VMware practices as well as experience with hardware and infrastructure to various platforms. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the firm’s infrastructure to resolve complex incidents and issues and provide a stable and reliable infrastructure.
Essential functions of the position:
Supports hypervisors, hardware and software platforms.
Incident, service request, changes and root cause analysis (based on ITIL).
ESXi host administration
Creation of data stores
Configuration of vSwitch / VM port group
DRS / SDRS / HA configuration
Creation / deletion of snapshots
VMotion Migration / vMotion Storage
VSphere resource management
Update and deployment of the VM model
Update of VMware tools
Firmware / driver / systems management software upgrade
Remote access controller
Coordinate the replacement of defective equipment
Fix the hardware problem
DELL and HP family servers and blades
HCI – DellEMC VxRail, Nutanix
Microsoft Windows Server:
Windows server disk management
· Terminal services / remote desktop access to servers.
· Software installations.
Basic understanding of MS clusters
SAN / NAS / DAS knowledge
VSAN (good to have)
Creation and modification of work instructions, reference and technical manuals and documentation of procedures.
Analytical / Decision Making Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot technical issues, resolve issues, find workarounds to restore services and know when to forward to the engineering team or supplier
Prioritize tasks and assignments
Work and work as a team with a multitude of different people across teams, regions and organizations
Handles escalations and difficult situations / people under pressure, such as restoring services
Knowledge and skills required:
Large scale VMWare vSphere administration experience
· Experience in maintaining critical production systems running in a data center environment.
Knowledge of Dell and HP server and blade hardware
Knowledge of HCI technologies and hardware – VxRail, Nutanix
Experience working with Windows server
Experience working with Active Directory
Understanding of IP protocols, networks, DNS and domain administration
Understanding of MS clustering
Understanding of the Linux operating system
Experience working in ITIL service management systems such as ServiceNow, Remedy
· Experience working with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
Strong switching and interpersonal skills
Able to follow processes
The role may also require periodic overtime at work to meet multiple demands and growing issues or to accommodate teams or staff in other time zones.
· Degree in computer science / management or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
