About the role

This position will be involved in the design and development of software components for telephone connectivity technologies on the Android platform. Software engineers are responsible for delivering software components and also working with other teams to resolve dependencies.

Your team

This position will report to the SW Manager in the Smart Device Connectivity / Projections group within the BU-Digital Cockpit. As part of an agile team, you will build phone connectivity solutions like Android Auto, ConnectNext functionality for the main unit. Your responsibilities include analyzing, designing, developing / coding, building, debugging and modifying software enhancements and new product development.

What will you do

  • Develop an application throughout the lifecycle that includes the proposal, prototype, architecture, design, implementation and delivery of telephone connectivity components.
  • Perform peer reviews, code verifications, static analysis testing, continuous build and unit testing of applications. Participate and lead the technical working group to make informed technical decisions.
  • Able to understand third party software from partners / OEMs / suppliers with minimal support, and integrate them into the HARMAN product portfolio.
  • Use a working knowledge of software development processes and integrated operating systems.
  • Analyze customer and internal requirements and specifications and translate them into software designs.
  • Tests software designs and code at the unit and system level to ensure all requirements are met and the highest software quality is achieved.
  • Participate in internal and client-focused design reviews throughout the program.
  • Coordinate software development activities with the software team leader.
  • Identifies product requirements or performance issues. Works with the Software Team Leader to negotiate a resolution.
  • Communicate with your peers within the Harman group to coordinate software development. This includes occasional travel for training or coordination with other groups.
  • Manages large projects and technical resources including planning, estimating and developing requirements in accordance with established software development process.
  • Work with customer to further define requirements and resolve issues
  • Android Java based software component implementation involving various connectivity and media functionality
  • Candidate must analyze problems using logs and debug on hardware
  • Implement and perform unit tests.
  • Sprint-based planning and execution

What do you need

  • Excellent programming and debugging skills with Java and Android.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented programming and design patterns.
  • Knowledge of repository software like Jira, GIT is preferred
  • Experience working with unit testing frameworks such as mockito, junit, robolectric.
  • Good knowledge of Gradle, Soong, and Android makefile builds is preferred.
  • Must be able to manage the technical team in terms of mentoring, working with them to resolve technical issues and delegation.
  • Knowledge of the Projection field is a plus.
  • Experience working with Android head units is preferred.

What is nice to have

  • Masters / Bachelor in Computer Engineering or similar discipline
  • Must have 6-7 years of overall experience
  • Good programming and debugging skills with Java and Android.
  • Knowledge of repository software like Jira, GIT is preferred
  • Experience working with unit testing frameworks such as mockito, junit, robolectric.
  • Good knowledge of Gradle, Soong, and Android makefile builds is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Projection field is a plus.
